Are We Legally Bound To Stand During The National Anthem?

I don't Know whether I am right or wrong, but since many years we are accustomed to our culture and the way of living.But as time passes , way of living changes and answer to the question that 'what is right and what is wrong' also changes according to time .

Since many years, arguing with elders were considered as objectionable and reprehensible act but today it can be justified as freedom of speech, liberty, etc.
In the same way , it was our practice to touch the feet of our teachers,elders but now this practice has been disappeared from our life . Now Schools didn't allow student to touch feet of teachers.

Above examples was from our day to day life but there are few defined behaviour for bureaucrats too , for example

  1. Army Officer Salute to their senior officer
  2. PM and President Stands during hoisting flaag
  3. Army Generals and other officer gives salute to PM and President
  4. ...and many more
One custom followed daily is-"Students have to Standing during  school prayer"


In the past few months, there had been a lot of hue and cry over people not standing, when the National Anthem is being played. But now question arises, is it necessary to stand during national anthem or not.
In my views there is standard for universal thing and there should be some standard for the same.

But as now many People says that "it should be choice of individual that whether he wish to stand during National Anthem or Not", then according to them all the above said custom should be abolished . 
  1. It should be choice of student whether to stand or not
  2. It should be choice of officer whether to salute his senior officer or not
  3. It should be choice of army personnel whether to Salute National flag or Not
All my dear readers, I know that there should be choice but every things can not be left as matter of choice. There should be well defined standard too.
